How to Download and Use Offline Maps on Google Maps
Posted on: Jun 11, 2025
Google Maps is a web tool by Google. It gives in-depth maps info, such as pictures from space, city maps, live traffic, and travel paths for different ways to move around. Launched in 2005, it features Street View for virtual street-level exploration and is used on both mobile and desktop. With billions of searches daily, it also powers many apps and helps businesses connect with users through listings and reviews.
The drawback is Google Maps, like every other app, is reliant on the internet, which could cause a maze when traveling to a new city without internet.Google has since then developed an alternative, "Offline Maps." In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to download and use Google Maps without the internet.

Open the Google Maps app on your device. Tap your profile icon (usually in the top right corner) to access account-related settings.
- 2. Select Offline Maps
Scroll through the account menu and tap “Offline Maps.” This section allows you to manage and download maps for offline use.
- 3. Tap “Select Your Own Map”
This option lets you manually choose a specific area to download rather than relying on automatic suggestions.
- 4. Choose the area of your offline map and download
A square box will appear on the map. Drag or zoom to adjust the area you want to save. The larger the area, the more storage it will use. Once satisfied, tap "Download."
- 5. Downloading will then start
The selected map area will begin downloading. You can also rename your offline map for easier identification. In this tutorial, we named the map "Dallas."
